My first LFN fic, finally!Do I need to state that I have no rights whatsoever over the characters, except the right of my unconditional love for them!Long live LFN!
There are those mornings when one feels abolutely depressed:a monday morning made dark grey by lead cloud pouring their rain intensively. The gloom requires lights being turned on, the rain falls monotonouly on the ground and all this is perfect only if you are asleep.
On such a morning Nikita was sound asleep in her bed after a tough mission the day before. She needed this long, relaxing sleep right now in order to function properly when awake.
If one could see her curled peacefully on the bed with one arm underneath the pillow and the other spread across the bed…her hair almost hiding her face along with the pillow.Amongst the sheets and in her white t-shirt she looked an angel.
It would be a crime to wake this creature if one could only see how peacefull it was.Well, one was looking.Hidden in the gloom of his office, dressed in black, drinking in the sight before him.Usually Michael avoided checking the cameras in Nikita’s apartment - he tried to respect her privacy. The reaon he was looking now was to make sure she was ok (they hadn’t really talked lately and because of her anger he hadn’t even approached with a question) and to get the job ahead of him done: he was to wake her up.She had to come in for another mission. When they told him he was furious - recently they hadn’t left her alone for more than a few hours at a time.
Seeing her now, though, meade his heart heavy - with anger and sorrow - he felt he couldn’t wake her up, couldn’t deprive her of the one good thing left in her life. His heart was also heavy with love - a bitter-sweet feeling of guilt and adorement and desire. He felt absolutely mierable watching her sleep right now.Yet there was nothing else in the world he would rather be looking at or doing for the rest of eternity. Well, maybe just one other thing - to put an arm around her and lye next to her on that white bed.
He checked hi watch. In less than two hours she had to be here.He started calculating without taking his eyes away from the screen. Ten minutes to wake up.Twenty minutes hower. Some breakfast - twenty more minutes.Forty- five to get here. She has to wake up now if she is ever to make it on time.He looked again at his watch then back to her.The sheets were wrapped about her like cloud, leaving one foot bare. The sight made him shiver.OK, just five more minutes and then I will have no choice.
The phone rang omewhere far away inside her dream. She ignored it and continued to swing higher and higher on the rope swing under the big oak. She was eating cotton candy and giggling. The phone rang again - cloer and shaerper this time. The tree and the swing faded away. She wa in the dark, till trying to ignore the piercing noise.Third ring - turned over in her bed,put her head under the pillow.Forth ring.AAAGGGHHH!She was furious. She groaned and turned again and without opening her eyes grabbed the pillow and threw it to where the noise was coming from - her bedside table. The phone and the watch and a vase got on the ground. The ringing continued. She opened her eyes , stood erect in her bed and reached out to the floor to get the phone.”Aaaghh!OK,OK!Got it.”She was screaming in her empty apartment.Sat on the floor and after one last ring picked it up.
“Josephine”
“Yeap”
She hung up.A split second was all she neede to finally wake before she jumped on her feet and started running toward the shower, switching the stereo on her way.Loud music filled the whole place.”OK!’she cheered herself outloud “Awake now!”and entered the shower.
He had observed the whole scene with a barely visible smile on his lips.He had to admit it was amusing to see Nikita wake up.Her energy made him love her all the more.He knew she had little reason to be cheerful but she forced herself to be, so that she wouldn’t totally sink into depression.
On her way out of the apartment she grabbed an apple. He regretted it - she needed a better breakfast to give her strength..He had calculated more time for breakfast but he had used it all, singing(awfully)in the shower.
He was lurking near the entrance hall in the hope of meeting her when she arrived, to see if she made it ok. The door opened and he stepped in - hair in chaos around her face(partly wet partly in need of a comb), big blue jacket, baggy pants and military boots.Coffee mug in one hand, car keys in the other, her backpack hanging loosely on one shoulder. And her - adorable in her attempts to balance all that.
“Hello” he greeted, his voice flat - the result of an enormous effort.
“Michael” she replied coldly as she was passin him by.She stopped just right next to his houlder - looked sideways to his face, omething he remembered to ask - “When does briefing begin?”
“In 15″ - perfectly flat voice again but hi heart skipped a beat when his eyes met hers.
“Good, I have time to go put my sack down”she was relieved to have gained some time to appear more collected at briefing. “See you there” and she continued walking and left him watch her as she went.He was glad she made it ok, ten minutes prior to his calculations. An invisible smile.
He was walking through Comm when he saw her chatting up Walter, drinking her coffee and smiling. He listened to catch her words. She was telling something about the best dream he ever had, right before she woke.It obviously happened the last five minutes of her sleep - something about a swing…
He smiled to himself ever o lightly - his five more minutes had been a gift.He only wished they were more.
Nikita sat at briefing.Walter next to her, Michael next to him.She gave him a quick glance. No one would ever know that in her dream he was swinging the swing, laughing together with her.

Bravo; lovely story. I am a big fan of LFN and glad I found another writer.
Best. del
